Full time: Kerry 1-18 Mayo 1-12
Kerry romped to this win, overcoming a somewhat slow start to really play some brilliant football en route to their 24th league title.
More to the point, they now look the team to beat this summer because these new rules were designed for forwards like David and Paudie Clifford. The former was superb today, the latter a force of nature.
After the game, he told TG4: "It is great to a game at Croke Park. We did some good things, some not so good, but hopefully we can improve from it.
"The game was very tactical. Both teams were trying to stop the opposition from scoring. You had two high-powered forward lines.
"It is special for us to win it."
In truth they deserved it, their passing was crisper, their shooting more efficient. While Aidan O'Shea started well for Mayo, their big players, Matthew Ruane and Ryan O'Donoghue were quiet by their high standards.
You can't say that about either the Cliffords or the Geaneys. They have Kerry flying. The team to beat this summer? You have to say so.

Man of the match is ...
And sure enough Paudie gets the man of the match award. His brother had to be a contender, too. Kerry looked brilliant today.
Garry Doyle
David Clifford relishing the new freedom
Give him a yard and you may as well give him a score.
David Clifford scores again from play, Kerry 1-18 to 1-12 ahead.
Garry Doyle
Paudie Clifford has to win man of the match
Another brilliant run from Clifford - the other one - sets up Conor Geaney for a point.
Paudie has been immense today.
Kerry lead 1-17 to 1-12 and there is no way back for Mayo, surely?

Mayo get a lifeline
Ryan O'Donoghue's free cuts the gap to four, five minutes left.

Kerry on course here for another League title
Paul Geaney's free extends the lead to five points, eight minutes to play.
Garry Doyle
Standards slip
Only one point apiece from each team in the last 10 minutes. While it remains an entertaining and open game, the shooting has been poor.

Change in goalkeeper for Mayo
Adrian Philips has replaced Colm Reape in the Mayo goal. Reape appears to have injured a finger on his right hand.
Garry Doyle
Four between the teams
Paul Towey gets a fine score from play. A move that started in Mayo's endline ends with sub Towey clipping over a tidy point. Kerry 1-15, Mayo 1-11

No fall off from Cliff
You just cannot give David Clifford space. Once you do, the flags start waving, first from the umpires then from the Kerry fans. Another score for him makes it 1-15 to 1-10
Garry Doyle
And now the gap is four
Tony Brosnan gets a fine score from play, Kerry lead 1-14 to 1-10, 50 minutes played.

Two pointer from Ryan O'Donoghue
Suddenly we have a game.
That eight point gap is now just three, O'Donoghue's two pointer from a free coming a minute after McLoughlin's goal. Now Kerry 1-13, Mayo 1-10

GOAL MAYO
Eoghan McLoughlin scores a superb goal, struck low into the corner of Shane Ryan's net.

Goal chance missed by Kerry
Kerry 1-12, Mayo 0-8
David Clifford gets another free, his fifth, then Micheal Burns spurns a great goal chance, Colm Reape making a fine save. at the other end, Gavin White puts in a brilliant block to prevent a Jordan Flynn point.

Kerry lead back up to five
Paudie Clifford really is on fire here. Involved in the build up to this point, he then saw Joe O'Connor finish it.
Garry Doyle
O'Donoghue reminds everyone Mayo are still in this game
Much needed score from Ryan O'Donoghue - a point when a goal seemed possible - reduces the gap to four.
Garry Doyle
Kerry flying
Kerry are mixing up their tactics here, sometimes running directly at the Mayo defence, other times kicking into space. A combination of those two approaches led to a chance for Paudie Clifford, which may have ended wide, but served as a reminder of how the Kingdom are going to thrive under these new rules.

Second half underway
Kerry lead by five. Can Mayo come back?
Garry Doyle
Half time - Kerry 1-9 Mayo 0-7
So Kerry go into the break with a five point lead, Ryan O'Donoghue missing a last gasp chance there to reduce the gap to three when he fired a free from outside the arc to the right of Shane Ryan's posts.
In truth, Kerry deserve their interval lead, not just because of the accuracy of their shooting but also because of the cleverness of their play. Their efficient use of possession has caused Mayo no end of trouble. More than anything, though, this is further evidence the new rules work, as teams can now attack and counter attack at pace.
The fact David Clifford is left with just one - rather than multiple - markers is such a good thing. He has four points to his name, one from play, one from a free which he won. His brother, Paudie, has excelled. This game looks like Kerry's to control and win. Mayo need to start playing with a bit more confidence.
Garry Doyle
In like Flynn
Jordan Flynn gets a much needed point for Mayo. They have 0-7 to their name. At one stage they led 0-4 to 0-2. They have been outplayed ever since.
Garry Doyle
Kerry running away here
David Clifford's free - his fourth point of the day - makes it 1-9 to 0-6, 32 minutes played.
Garry Doyle
David Clifford gets his first score from play
Great score for Clifford; great score for the new rules. Quick kick passing leads to good forwards being left one on one with their markers. That is enough for David Clifford. His score puts Kerry five clear.
Garry Doyle
Paudie Clifford on target
Shaping to shoot with his left foot, Paudie then scored with his right. He is some player.
Kerry lead, 1-7 to 0-6, 29 minutes played.
Garry Doyle
Aidan O'Shea on target again
Now the gap is down to three, 1-6 to 0-6, O'Shea getting half of Mayo's six points.
Garry Doyle
Goal chance missed by Kerry
An enthralling move ended with Graham O'Sullivan shooting wide for Kerry. But this showed the advantage of the new rules as Mayo had pushed up to deny Kerry the chance to try for a two-pointer but in so doing, they left space inside for O'Sullivan to move into.
His movement was good; his finishing not quite up to speed.
Garry Doyle
Chances taken by Kerry
Kerry have taken 70 per cent of their chances, Mayo converting just 50 per cent of theirs.
Garry Doyle
Both midfielders have now scored for Kerry
Barry Dan O'Sullivan lands another score and Kerry lead by four, 1-6 to 0-5.
Garry Doyle
Three clear for Kerry
David Clifford lands a free and Kerry lead by 1-5 to 0-5. Nineteen minutes played.
Garry Doyle
Cliffords combine to get another Kerry score
David Clifford lands a free which he won for himself with a typically robust run. Prior to that, his brother, Paudie, had created the chance for his sibling.
